WebMinehead takes its name from the North hill - MYNED -being an old English word meaning a hill. There are two ancient farms on its upper slopes known as East Myne and West Myne. In the 16th century the sea came up to conygar hill, near Dunster which had a harbour, and Minehead bay was a forest.
